What exactly is VOIP?
VOIP is a telephone system that allows
you to communicate with people by voice through the Internet and your
computer.
The technology has been around since the 1980's but it took broadband
technology to make it a viable means of communication. Using the old
style modem just will not do the trick. If you have a DSL or Cable
connection you can make phone calls at fraction of the cost of regular
phone calls.
If you move to another location you can
take your VOIP software with you. You can also use your laptop as a
phone while traveling. Stores like Starbucks Coffee and many bookstores
provide "hot spots" where you can connect and converse if you
have a headset.
